One of the top ten regrets of people that are dying is "I wished I travelled more.". A very powerful statement, one that I can attest to - I've lost my Grandfather recently on 11/12/13 at 3 pm. Months before his death, while watching a travel channel with my cousin, my grandfather stated to him that he wished he travelled more and that watching the travel channel was the closest thing he could do to traveling.
Why is this such a regret for everyone? Of all the things one can regret about, why?
As my family and I go through the grieving process, the only thing that kept popping up in my mind about this question was it was --TIME. Time is the answer! To put time in perspective, how much time do you think people on average spend working in a lifetime? about 99,000 hours! How about sleep in a life time? 220,000 hours! Eating? 32,000 hours! Driving? 38,000 hours! Watching TV? 80,000 hours! Surfing the internet? 28,000 hours! If you add all those hours up, its about 56 years!
Is there any time left to spend to make great memories?!?! What about time to run after your dreams? how about time with friends? and most important above all else, how much time do you spend with your love ones? Understanding the average hours spent on wasteful activity such as watching TV and Surfing the internet will hopefully shed light on how you spend your TIME.
Perhaps a dying individual deeply understands this simple concept, as their body fails them. So many wasted opportunities on meaningless things...
So when do you wake up? When its too late? Im not talking about making drastic changes, Im talking about being conscious of how you spend your precious TIME. Ever heard of the old expression time is money? Well its true spend your time wisely and you will make more money, but in life the monetary currency is TIME.
So take the time and think about it. Learn from my beloved late Grand Father Ricardo Mendoza Arucan. So LIVE to run after you dreams, make time for your friends and most of all spend more time with your loveones and perhaps when you do all these things have enough time to travel...
Going back in time, as my family and I said our final goodbye to my Grandfather's burial, I took one of the roses on his coffin and put it in my wallet (I placed the rose in a book to flattened it later that day). I took the rose because I will bring it with us when we travel all over the world and leave one petal to each destination to signify his wish of travel...
This sight looks GREAT! Nice Job, sorry for your loss.
